Can I pick up a movie that is on reserve by one of my professors?Yes you can! The Sound & Image reserves desk is located on the 5th floor of the Green Library or at the 1st floor Service Desk at Hubert Library.
How do I use Citation Linker?It helps you find the full text of articles. When doing research, you often find a citation or maybe an abstract, of an article in a database but the text of the article isn’t included. CitationLinker and its associated tools (360Link, eJournal Portal, Find it) will let you check all the other library full text resources to see if you can get the article either in a different database or in the library’s print or microform periodicals.
How do I configure Google Scholar to display Find It @ FIU links?
Click on Scholar Preferences in Google Scholar (http://scholar.google.com); Type Florida International University in the "Library Links" section; Save your preferences; Start Searching!
Does the library own every article in a database?When you are using a database, you will notice that there are articles that will include the full text. Other articles will only have the citation information or abstract available. For those articles with only citation information, you must click on the 'Find it @ FIU' button/link in order to be sure we don't have the article full text in another database or in print.
How do I find scholarly peer-reviewed articles?
Most of our databases have an option to limit your search results to either scholarly, peer-reviewed, or refereed articles. For example, when searching Academic OneFile, you can limit your results to peer-reviewed publications either before searching or after getting your results.

TRIAL: 2010 Landscan Population Dataset

We have a free trial of the LandScan 2010 population dataset, served by EastView.

This is a highly detailed global population database. The web application can be viewed at http://wms.cartographic.com/landscan/index.html . This application is accessible only from within the FIU network until November 30th.

"LandScan, which refines the best available census data using geographic information system and remote sensing technologies, has emerged as an international community standard for sustainable development, environmental protection, disaster response and humanitarian relief. Research using LandScan has resulted in publications on subjects of interest to policy decision makers such as predicted effects of global climate change. For instance, after the devastating Indian Ocean tsunami of late 2004, LandScan was used to estimate the number of people affected and where to send emergency supplies."

We have setup a trial to:Constitutions of the World Online, the Internet portal of The Rise of Modern Constitutionalism, 1776 – 1849, international research project led by Prof. Horst Dippel at the University of Kassel, Germany.

Constitutions of the World Online contains not only the annotated text of constitutional documents from 1776 until 1849, but also the digitized facsimile copies of the original constitutional documents. Each paragraph of a document has been indexed with standardized index terms. All documents are indexed in 18 different languages. Searches can be performed through the full text of the edited documents (Under menu item “Search” use “Edited Documents,” “Text Search,” or “Index Search.”

Aletta Jacobs was a Dutch physician and feminist who, along with her husband C.V. Gerritsen began collecting information on women's issues in the late 1800s.
This database is the definitive cross-cultural resource for information on women's history. It spans more than four centuries and 15 languages and includes over two million pages in full image. Users can trace the evolution of feminism within a single country, as well as the impact of that country's feminist movement on other countries and their movements.

The Libraries Mobile Website incorporates the new mobile catalog (designed by FCLA), as well as basic library information such as our hours, current news, service desk phone numbers, and a link to e-mail reference services. Additional functionality will be added as we further explore user needs in a mobile environment. The mobile site is best viewed in a Safari web browser.

NEW DATABASE: SimplyMap

We now have access to SimplyMap:

SimplyMap is an Internet-based mapping application that enables users to develop interactive thematic maps and reports using thousands of demographic, business, and marketing data variables. Professional mapping applications take over 20 hours of training to use, but we have designed SimplyMap to be incredibly user friendly - most users are up and running with less than 10 minutes of training.

EASI/Mediamark Research Inc. (MRI) Propensity Data

Mediamark Research (MRI) produces current estimates of usage and consumption (propensity) for thousands of very specific and detailed products, including actual brand data, details of frequency of usage, and more. Our data provider EASI ® (Easy Analytic Software, Inc) annually prepares estimates for about 3,000+ MRI categories of propensities using their updated demographic estimates. EASI’s models use their own Block Group demographic estimates to update these potential results (propensity to buy, expenditures, etc.).

EASI Health Package

Health Module answers frequently asked questions about disease, health status, doctor visits and more. EASI has modeled the health statistics for the U.S. population based upon age, sex, and race probabilities. The probabilities are modeled against the EASI Census, current year and five year forecasts. The sources of this data is the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

American History in Video
Collection of video available online for the study of American history, with 2,000 hours and more than 5,000 titles on completion. The collection allows students and researchers to analyze historical events, and their presentation over time, through commercial and governmental newsreels, archival footage, public affairs footage, and important documentaries. This release now provides 4,248 titles, equaling approximately 1,031 hours.

The American Theological Library Association (ATLA) Historical Monograph Collection consists of two Series that contain more than 29,000 titles focused on religion and theology. In its entirety, the collection is estimated to contain over 10 million pages, representing a core collection for colleges and universities with programs in history, theology, religion, sociology, political science and other disciplines.

Series 1 consists of titles from the 13th Century through 1893.

Series 2 consists of titles published from 1894 through 1923.

Synthesis is an innovative information service for the research, development, and educational community in engineering and computer science. The basic component of the library is a 50- to 100-page "Lecture"; a self-contained electronic book that synthesizes an important research or development topic, authored by an expert contributor to the field. We believe that they offer unique value to the reader by providing more analysis and depth than the typical research journal article. They are also more dynamic and convenient than traditional print or digital handbooks, contributed volumes, and monographs.

The library and its lectures are organized by series. Each series is managed by a prominent consulting editor. The series editor guides lecture topic and author selection as well as peer review. New series and lectures will be added continuously and existing lectures will be revised as needed. This will make the collection dynamic in a way that has not been achieved with traditional reference or educational products. The new EBL Patron Interface is now live! As well as a fresh, clean, brand new look, the new EBL Patron Interface has the following new features:

Bookshelf: access current loans, collections, and recently accessed titles from a centralized location.
Collections: add and organise titles in “My Collections”.
Bookmarks: access and export patron ebook notes without having to enter the ebook itself, and bookmark ebooks at page level.
Search Result Filtering: filter down search results at the click of a button, by Publication Date, Publisher, Category or Language.
Metadata Hyperlinking: link to similar titles in the EBL catalog using LCCH, Dewey, LCCN, Author or Category hyperlinking.
